Semmangudi Higher Secondary School, Semmangudi
Started in 1958, most students come from extremely poor backgrounds where parents work as landless laborers with monthly incomes less than Rs.1000.
Until 2003, the school ran in thatched roofed structures without any provision for electricity. After taking over the school, SDET constructed a new building of 6 classrooms with RCC roofs. The ‘MP Local Area Development Fund’ helped build an additional 4 classrooms. The school has classes from 6-12 and has doubled enrolment in the past 4 years. The school now has 1600 students and a 97% pass percentage.
It has recently been classified in the A+ grade of schools by the Education department of Thiruvarur district.
Recent philanthropic contributions:
- Fully equipped Computer Lab by Cognizant Foundation
- A Physics and Chemistry Lab by Precious Shipping Ltd, Bangkok
- An RCC stage for the OAT donated by the MP Local Area Development Fund
