Semmangudi Higher Secondary School, Semmangudi (Aided School)

  • Started in 1958, the school ran as a thatched structure without electricity, until SDET took over in 2003, when they constructed a new building with 6 classrooms. The MP Local Area Development Fund helped add 4 more classrooms. Today, the school has classes from 6th to 12th and has doubled enrollment in the past 4 years. It was even recently given an A+ grade by the Education Department of Tiruvarur district.
  • Currently there are 42 staff members and over 1600 students who excel with a 97% pass percentage. Most students come from extremely poor backgrounds where parents work as landless laborers with monthly incomes less than Rs.1000.
  • A fully equipped Computer lab was contributed by the Cognizant Foundation and a Physics and Chemistry lab by Precious Shipping Ltd, Bangkok. An RCC stage for the OAT was also donated by the MP Local Area Development Fund.
  • The students have excelled in sports as well as academics, finishing second in district level handball and volleyball competitions.
